John fishing with eager friends and the telegraph pole with Thomson tartan.

With some sadness we left Emerald Beach on Pacific Highway, past lovely little Woolgoolga – temple – inland to Grafton where there was an electoral office, much form filling and we voted. That done, pushed on to Yamba making small detours to Ullmara and Maclean which is a Scottish town where we had been told Scottish tartans were painted on telegraph poles, lo and behold the Thomson tartan was the second one, so screeeech – pulled up – photograph session.
The first day at the Blue Dolphin C/park we went back to Maclean to check it out more.
The town runs along beside the wide Clarence River, with a focus on things Scottish,I researched more about the Thomson clan, discovered 4 different versions of tartan. It became more windy so we returned home. That evening John started to realise he had a cold coming on. The first thing to do next day find chemist to buy J’s preferred method of weathering a cold – horseradish, garlic & vit C tablets. Cute shops in Yamba bought some gear to use with our computers, at the camping shop found a lightweight miniature clothes line, only it has yellow fittings, not blue which is my theme for the ila-j.
We were made aware that the dirty splotches on our van were fruit bat droppings, so made sure our car was not parked under the palm tree.
Researching the area on Dragons Abreast site found there is a club operating near Maclean, went down there Wednesday at 3:30, dressed up in all my gear, but by 4 pm no one had fronted – we can but try.
As John was off colour we rested a lot during out stay, did some walks, little fishing, caught up on things and left on the Friday for Brunswick Heads.
Big Banana just for show and can you see the bird on the kangaroo's back ?

We have loved Emerald Beach so much that we have extended our stay to 17 days in all.
Love the wildlife, kangaroos, tawny frogmouth owls, kangaroos, ducks, magpies, lorikeets, Indian minors, many other species too, the proximity to facilities, I have loved having a super bathroom almost to myself, no one used it much, so it was mostly in pristine condition and the fittings were new, in the morning the sun poured in. The Pancake Breakfast on Wednesdays, Happy Hour on Friday evening, craft sessions, the friendliness of all the staff, loved Coffs Harbour in general and Woolgoolga, the banana plantations and the views of the ocean as you drove along the Pacific Highway, enjoyed eating the ladyfinger bananas.
Decided that we couldn’t leave before checking out the BIG BANANA, had beautiful banana split and fritter, learned how bananas grew then climbed up through a typical banana plantation to the lookout over the bay, my knee held out, the doctor’s extra medication was starting to work.
